Using East Leake Online

This website is primarily designed to provide local information for East Leake and surrounding areas.   If you want to find a shop, a business, a service or a social club that serves the area, you should be able to find it here or at least find a link to the information you require.  If you find something is missing, please get in touch so it can be included.

The following features are presently available and more will be added as the website grows.

If you have any ideas or suggestions about improving the website, don't keep them to yourself.  Likewise if you know of anything that might interest to others in the area such as a business, a group, an event or a service, please don't hesitate to get in touch or use the Classified pages to make it available.

Using the Website:

...finding your way around

  1. First decide in general what you're seeking from the menu options at the top or on the left of the page.  The options available on the left will vary depending on the page you're viewing but those at the top remain the same on every page for convenience.

  2. Many of the menu options will deliver several choices so if you choose SHOPS you can browse to see all shops listed or choose the one you want from the Quick Selection menu on the left.  This will take you straight to that listing without having to scroll through the page searching for it.

  3. Although listed businesses are principally those that serve East Leake, some are outside the area when there isn't a comparable one locally.  If you would like a free listing please ask - it's really free!

Searching the Website:

...to find what you want

  1. If you can't find what you are looking for, try the Search Website facility.  For example if you want to find a dentist you could search for 'dentist' or 'filling' The result should be the healthcare page where you will find dentists.

  2. Another way to search is to select Website Map and look through a list of all the individual pages in the website.  This will usually find a suitable result.  There are also the Useful Links and Useful Telephones pages with more options to choose from, including other websites.

  3. If what you're looking for isn't on the website (for example there are no high-street banks with a branch in any local villages) try Useful Links to the nearest local branch.

HELPFUL TOUCHES

On the far left of the screen you will see a vertical bar inviting you to point at it.  This should 'float' there, even on long pages and pointing at it reveals another set of menu options that provide even more information and helpful items. These are available on nearly every page so you can access them from almost anywhere.

At the top of each page, on the right just beneath the heading, you will see two buttons. One takes you to the very first page of this website which is probably where you started. The second will take you backwards so you can retrace your steps. This doesn't work where a page has opened in a new window. In that case you should use the browser's 'BACK' button or close the window.

On the bottom right of your screen you will see a link that will let you return to the top of a long page without having to scroll all the way up again.  Just click on the word TOP and it will immediately return to the top of the current page.

At the bottom of pages where there is useful information, you will see a link 'Print This Page - Text Only' and this is provided so you can print just the information without pictures or unnecessary clutter. It will always be properly formatted for your printer and normally (though not always) ignores any images or animations in the page.  This means that you don't waste ink or toner printing out stuff you don't need so it saves money.

On many pages you will see on the left menu column when the page was last updated, how many visitors are currently using the website and how many have already visited.  Some pages also show a button to allow you to 'Tell a Friend' so you can send a link to someone who might find it useful.

Pictures and Images you see on the advertising pages can be 'clicked' to open an enlarged version of the picture. In fact wherever a picture has any interest it can often be enlarged in this way - and downloaded by 'right-clicking'.

Featured Adverts are shown on pages where there is no need for a menu or information.  These are local advertisers and the advert you see might change each time the page is refreshed or reloaded. Clicking on the advert will take you to another page or the advertiser's website (in a new window).

Sponsored Adverts are usually included when a shop or other service isn't available locally.  Some these adverts pay a commission every time someone makes a purchase as a result of clicking on the respective link. The revenue from this helps to cover the expense of running this community website.
